About the Library

In this Research Guide, you will learn about the library and all services provided.

Circulation Services

Circulation Services is located on the first floor of Accokeek Hall. Services include:

  • circulating books
  • multimedia
  • reserve materials
  • issuing photo identification cards
  • assisting with the scanner and photocopying equipment.

Most services are available to both the College community and the general public.

Borrowers


  • students with a current validated Prince George's Community College photo identification card
  • staff and faculty with a Prince George's Community College photo identification card
  • alumni with a valid alumni card plus an official identification (e.g., driver's license or social security card)
  • residents of Prince George's County with a County Resident Card and other official identification
  • high school students who are members of the Prince George's Community College Special User Program (high school identification needed and approval by high school coordinator)

Circulation Materials


  • books, music CDs, and audiotapes

  • limited to five check out items per day and a maximum number of ten; county residents and high school patrons are allowed a maximum of five items

  • loaned for three weeks with one renewal

A Prince George's Community College photo identification card or a special community identification card is needed to check out materials. These cards are issued by the Circulation Services staff.

Nursing and allied health materials are only available to enrolled Prince George's Community College students.

Fines & Lost Items


Fines are charged for overdue materials. Patron fines begin at $.25 per day, per item, up to a maximum of $8 per item. Late fines must be settled at the Circulation Services Desk before borrowing privileges are restored. When an item is lost, the borrower must pay a replacement cost of $50.00, a maximum fine of $8.00, and a processing fee of $15.00 before borrowing privileges are restored.

Returning Books


Books can be returned to the circulation desk during normal hours of operation or at the book return slot located in front of Accokeek Hall. The book return is checked daily.

  • If the materials are late according to the return date, book return should be done at the front desk to ensure all fines and fees are cleared off the patron’s record. 
  • If the books were checked out through Interlibrary Loan (ILL), books must be returned in person at the circulation desk. 

Multimedia Collections


  • music and audio CDs
  • audio cassettes
  • DVDs

The multimedia collections are located on the first floor of the library. Patrons may view DVDs only in the library. Faculty may check them out for Prince George's Community College instructional purposes only.

Other services include

  • placing cataloged multimedia materials on reserve for student assignments
