Tutoring and Writing Centers: Tutoring Center

The Tutoring Center provides instructional support to all students. Services include tutoring by appointment in-person and remote, drop-in assistance (when a tutor is available), guided small-group study sessions, and assistance with related computer software.


Hours of Operation for the Scheduling Desk:

Fall 2024

Monday - Thursday: 9:00 am - 8:00 pm 
Friday: 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
Saturday - Sunday: 9:00 am - 2:00 pm  (online only)

 

4 Ways to make an appointment 

  • Navigate - Make your own appointment online through Navigate Self-Service
  • In-person - Speak to a person at the front desk of every location 
  • Online- Speak or chat with a person online through our live Zoom Room 
  • Phone - Speak with someone on the phone during desk hours

Students can make a self-appointment through Navigate Self-Service. Students would select Learning Commons (Tutoring and Academic Support) for the appointment type and select the service by location. All services listed by campus are in person, and services listed as virtual are online.

To Make an Appointment Live Online

Speak with a Scheduler in our Virtual TWC Chat Room. The scheduler in the chat room will set up your appointment.  They will also connect you with a live tutor at your scheduled time if your appointment is on Zoom.

What is Expected of Me, the Student?


  • You are expected to arrive ON TIME for each of your online appointments
  • You should have books, lecture notes, syllabi, and assignments with you
  • You should read and attempt any assigned material prior to coming to your online appointment
  •  You should move to a quiet room and try to keep background noises low before starting your online appointment

What Will the Tutoring Center Not Do?


  • Tutors will not do your homework for you. It is your responsibility to come prepared.
  • Tutors will not provide answers to quizzes, tests, or assignments that count toward your final course grade.
  • Tutors will not sign off that you have attended a tutoring appointment. If you have a requirement for proof of tutoring please speak with the manager for assistance.

 

Attendance/Cancellation Policy


  • You may make 1 appointment per day with a maximum of 2 appointments per week, per subject. 
  • Any appointment cancellation must be made at least 24 hours before the appointment or you will be considered a no-show. (Call (301) 546-0748 to cancel or leave a message.)
  • Appointments made on the same day are expected to be kept; otherwise, you will be considered a no-show.
  • If you arrive more than 10 minutes late, your appointment will be available for walk-ins. If your time is given away, you will be considered a no-show.
  • If you have two no-shows, you will be contacted by the Manager. On the third no-show, you will be required to meet with the manager before making additional appointments.  
  • If your missed appointment was due to a specific circumstance, you may schedule a meeting with the manager at any time to voice your concerns.

Subject availability changes each semester. On a weekly basis, students may make an appointment for subjects in which they are currently enrolled.
