Nuclear Medicine : Nuclear Medicine

This supports research in the nuclear medicine program.

Nuclear Medicine

The Nuclear Medicine Technology A.A.S. program prepares graduates to be competent, professional, caring Nuclear Medicine Technologists. A revised curriculum integrates the theory and concepts of current molecular imaging techniques with hands-on learning experiences in classrooms and labs that are equipped with modern nuclear medicine imaging and non-imaging equipment. Didactic and laboratory experiences are complemented by directed clinical practice in a variety of regional health care affiliates in order to prepare students for professional practice.

Graduates of the Nuclear Medicine Technology program will be able to:

  1. Perform nuclear medicine imaging and non-imaging procedures.
  2. Operate and troubleshoot imaging and non-imaging instrumentation used in nuclear medicine.
  3. Demonstrate communication methods necessary to work in a culturally diverse health care setting.
  4. Use appropriate radiation safety and radiopharmaceutical handling techniques to protect patients, self, and others.
  5. Appraise situations and use problem-solving skills to construct appropriate solutions when needed.
  6. Display professional, moral, and ethical standards consistent with the Nuclear Medicine Technologist Code of Ethics set forth by the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging Technologist Section.
  7. Apply the principles of the social sciences in the practice of nuclear medicine technology and patient care.

Accreditation

The Nuclear Medicine Technology program is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Educational Programs in Nuclear Medicine Technology (JRCNMT).

Allied Health Department

The Allied Health Department offers eight health care programs that lead to an associate degree or certificate. Students train on state of the art equipment in our simulation labs. They also serve a clinical internship to apply their skills.
